Book Series Recommendation #7 – The Grisha Trilogy

Series – The Grisha Trilogy (aka Shadow and Bone Trilogy)
Author – Leigh Bardugo
Number of books – 3
Overall rating – 5/5 as of the end of book 2 (I haven’t read the last)

The Grisha trilogy was first brought to my attention through Youtube! I must say, it wasn’t a disappointment at all. I don’t think I can properly put this trilogy into words, since I’ve only read the first two books, but I can say that it is very fast paced and unique. There are very few books/series that I genuinely wonder how the author came up with the idea for their books, one being J.K. Rowling, and the Grisha books are certainly on that list.

Book Series Recommendation #6 – Beautiful Creatures

Series – Beautiful Creatures (aka Caster Series)
Authors – Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Number of books – 4
Overall rating – 4/5
If you watched the movie and didn’t read the books, you are 100% wrong. This series follow Lena Duchannes who will soon be turning 16, the coming of age for Casters (magic folk). When she turns 16, Lena will be claimed to be either Dark or Light, so understandably she’s a little frightened.
The movie just completely screws the first book up, so if you think it’s pretty accurate, you need to forget all of that and read the books.
Overall I gave this series 4/5 stars, but I lingered on 4.5 for a little while, because I really like this series. However, there are some times when it tends to get slow and boring, but isn’t that the case will all books? I recommend this series for people who like a little dark magic and somewhat of a mystery/suspense.

Book Series Recommendation #5 – Shatter Me Trilogy

Series – Shatter Me Trilogy
Author – Tahereh Mafi
Number of books – 3 (2 novella)
Overall rating – 5/5

I want to start off by saying that these covers are probably the most beautiful book covers I’ve seen. Now, this series is…amazing. The book revolves around Juliette, who has been locked up in an insane asylum where she has not been in contact with anyone for almost a year until she gets a cellmate…a male cellmate. Did I mention that she knows him? Juliette cannot touch anyone, because she has a power that causes her to sap the energy out of someone until they die. When she is released, she finds herself under the watchful eyes of Warner, who seems to have taken an unusual interest in her. This trilogy is full of so many ups and downs that I can’t even begin to describe it. By the end of Ignite Me, you’ll find yourself hoping for things you would have scoffed at in the first two books. This series was one of my top 3 series from last year, so I hope you enjoy it like I did!

Exciting Inheritance Cycle Recent News!

Read blog post by Christopher Paolini himself –> https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_posts/8179589-april-2015-the-sci-fi-book-music-q-as-and-more?ref=ru_lihp_up_abp_0_mclk

It’s a well known fact that I love the Inheritance Cycle. I remember first coming across the first book, Eragon, in my school library. I didn’t pick it up the first time I saw it, but somehow or another it ended up in my possession. I was so fascinated by Eragon and his little blue stone that I couldn’t wait before getting my hands on the second book. After reading the third book, I was so upset, because I (not being the resourceful book-lover I am today) had thought the series was over. Of course, I soon found out I was wrong, because about 2 or 3 years later Inheritance came out. When I finished Inheritance, I completely lost it, I slipped into a form of depression and I couldn’t bear to think it was over. Instantly after finishing, I went on Christopher Paolini’s website and I was looking at his tour times. I realized he was going to be in my area soon and that I might be able to go. I asked my parents, who replied that we might be able to go. Eventually I forgot about it and went about my life. Then came a weekend when I was going with my best friend, her mom, and my mom for a trip to what I like to refer to ‘the big city’ but really it’s just Indianapolis, Indiana, which is slightly less impressive. They told us when we got there that we would be going to the signing and after a wash of happiness I realized that I didn’t have my books with me to get signed. My mother then presented me with a box set of all four books!
The signing was one of those shining moments in my life that I’ll probably never forget, but it didn’t change the fact that the series was over and I would never get to read about those amazing characters ever again. Of course, I had heard rumors about a 5th book, but I never really believed it until I saw this blog post.
It’s official there will be another book in the Inheritance Cycle. We don’t know when, but it’s going to be a continuation of the story. Sorry if this doesn’t interest anyone else as much as this interests me, but I felt like sharing a little bit. I’ll try and keep this story updated if I hear anymore information! 🙂

Book Series Recommendation #4 – The Ranger’s Apprentice

Series – The Ranger’s Apprentice
Author – John Flanagan
Number of books – 12 (10 shown)
Overall rating – 5/5

This series has been in my life for a long time and I’ve loved it since the beginning. The main character, Will, has such an amazing back story and he goes on so many amazing adventures that just make you want to keep reading and never stop. The last book of the series came out not long ago and I cried so bad when it ended. I can’t even put my love for these books into words. I recommend this series to everyone. Literally. Everyone.

Book Series Recommendation #3 – The Kane Chronicles

Series – The Kane Chronicles
Author – Rick Riordan
Number of books – 3
Overall rating – 3/5

If you liked Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus, this is a great series to go to if you want the mythology feel again, but with a new twist. This series is about the Egyptian gods! This series follows Carter and Sadie Kane, siblings that have lived completely different lives, coming together to go on an epic quest to save the world.
Now, I personally didn’t like this series as much as I liked the Greek and Roman gods novels by Rick Riordan, but they were good enough for me to own copies of and possibly go back and reread, but don’t let my opinion discourage you, these are great reads!

Horns Review

Book title: Horns
Author: Joe Hill
Rating: 4.5/5

I did the wrong thing with this book and I watched the movie first, so of course I’m going to say I liked the movie more than I liked the book. This story revolves around Ig Perrish, who was accused of murdering his girlfriend, Merrin. One day, Ig gets really drunk and does a lot of bad things, when he wakes up the next morning with horns growing out of his head! Suddenly, everyone is telling Ig their deepest secrets and he uses the horns to try and find Merrin’s killer. I love this story, a lot, but there was some back story in the book that we didn’t really need to know about (for example Lee and his mother).

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good dark thriller and horror!

Next I’ll be reading: 1984 by George Orwell (for school)

Book Series Recommendation #2 – The Heroes of Olympus

Series – The Heroes of Olympus
Author – Rick Riordan
Number of books – 5
Overall rating – 4.5/5

For lovers of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, some of these character might be pretty familiar to you! This story begins off with Jason Grace, the Roman son of Jupiter (Zeus) who can’t seem to remember who he is and where he is. I won’t give away anything, because this series is one of those where you sort of want to go in blind. Without going in blind, you might end up looking for plot points you’ve heard about, etc., so I won’t go into detail.
This series was first shown to me by my best friend when she presented me with a paper on my birthday saying that I would be receiving a signed copy of the first book, The Lost Hero, in the mail when it comes out and I’ve been following the series ever since! Unfortunately, the series ended on what I think of as a low note late last year when the 5th and final book, The Blood of Olympus, was released.
I recommend this series to anyone that likes a story with ups and downs and a lot of history (not to mention the mythology!).
